Bucket List Addition: Mongolia

Mongolia

I have been on this kick of adding to my bucket list off the grid places to travel to and Mongolia popped up!

Mongolia often does not get the credit it deserves. However, it is amazing! It is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world, enabling you to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. From hiking through the mountains to climbing up to Buddhist temples and villages, it really is a magical destination that has so much to offer. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the top reasons to visit Mongolia.

The Festivals

If you want to soak up the culture and history of Mongolia, enjoying one of the festivals is a must. The standout festival is the annual Naadam festival, which is scheduled for July every year. This festival combines some of the most traditional and vital elements of Mongolian culture, including culinary offerings, cultural performances, horse races, and wrestling competitions.

The Lack of Tourists

For those seeking a serene and relaxing break, there is nowhere better than Mongolia. The lack of tourists is undoubtedly one of the main draws. The relatively unchartered and remote landscape is the main reason why most people opt for neighboring countries such as China and Russia. Because of this, you can be sure that you won’t have to deal with any huge crowds or headaches. Escaping the claws of tech and everyday hustle and bustle is something that appeals to most, but don’t worry, you can still show everyone the fun you have had on your vacation. You can customize photo postcards using WiFi at an Internet cafe and send them to your loved ones back home. Or, why not keep everyone up-to-date with your trip on Instagram?

The Great Outdoors

The main feature of Mongolia is the vast, almost pristine natural landscapes. There are not many places that can offer you endless, untouched space for miles and miles. From the rolling grasslands to the sand dunes of the Gobi desert, words do not do Mongolia justice.

The Unique Cuisine

If you are someone who likes to try local cuisine when you go abroad, and you have adventurous taste buds, prepare to be amazed. A strong culinary scene may not come to mind when you think of Mongolia, but the food is delicious. Most villagers will live on mutton, sheep’s cheese, and sheep’s milk. One dish that is definitely worth trying is fried mutton served with buttery dumplings.

The Gobi Desert

Gobi Desert

It would not be right to mention Mongolia without talking about the Gobi Desert, which is one of the world’s biggest deserts. Whether you are standing on a towering sand dune or you’re atop a camel, the views you will witness will take your breath away.

As you can see, there are so many reasons why I want to visit Mongolia. If you are looking to enjoy a luxurious and culture-filled vacation, which enables you to escape the claws of technology for a week or two, look no further. From the festivals to the great outdoors, you are going to fall in love with everything that Mongolia has to offer.  Would you be interested in visiting?
